These mittens were inspired by the traditional zigzag-patterned mittens from Rovaniemi. The pattern on the top side (the palm side is plain) is created with an unusual technique. The pattern colors are not carried along as in stranded knitting; nor is the pattern done using intarsia - these mittens have a clever and unique technique of their own.

The Katrilli Mittens present a friendly way to get accustomed with this colorwork technique.

If this technique is new to you and to create a fun gauge “swatch” for the mittens, the pattern includes instructions for a little pin cushion.
