Designing for my son with size 49 a pair of socks based on the knit-frock of the fishermen from Katwijk, a coastal town in the Netherlands.

Fishermen from this fishing village started wearing knitted frocks as late as after WW I. Before that time they wore smock frocks in black trimmed with a red cord. At first they wore this sweater only after working hours. Later it became wear for everyday.

The first sweaters from Katwijk were made based on the English smock frock. Later The sweaters were knitted with sajet in black or in beige. The color blue was reserved for the socks.

More about these sweaters in the book Nederlandse Visserstruien by Henriette van der Klift-Tellegen.
