Kay’s Cowl was inspired by my good friend Kay following a conversation we had about shawl and scarf designs. Its a three colour cowl worked in two broad stripes of contrasting yarns with a thin third colour stripe worked across both of the main colours. The pattern is written in UK notation and other nationalities will need to convert to their local notation. It is predominantly worked in treble crochet.

The yarn I have chosen for the design is Baa Ram Ewe’s Winterburn Aran, which is a beautiful blend of British Masham and Blue Faced Leicester wools. The wearing and washing of the cowl will soften the yarn to give a lovely drape. If using the Baa Ram Ewe yarn, please note that the longer version uses almost the entirety of the main two colours listed, so keeping an eye on tension is a must!

The pattern is written for two sizes - a shorter, close to the neck cowl and a longer more draped cowl. The cowl is meant to be worn in a double twist around the neck.

The pattern is suitable for crocheters of all abilities.
