This is a colourwork pattern inspired by one of my favourite book series – the Old Kingdom Series – by Garth Nix. I have included the pattern for the mittens shown in the cover picture, but it can be adapted for use with other objects as well.

These are simple fingerless mittens that are knit flat and seamed up, leaving a gap for your thumb, but could be adapted to be knit in the round. You are welcome to use the colourwork pattern to adapt to other projects. The test pair were knit to fit a woman’s hand approximately 19 cm in circumference around its broadest point.
