The stitch pattern in this scarf looks very complicated but it is actually very simple. It is just seed stitch but it uses three colors that change after every row. This pattern is written to make a wide flat scarf but you can easily covert it to a circular cowl. Just cast on using your favorite provisional method. Work scarf as written, ending on Row 5 of the stitch pattern. Open the provisionally CO stitches and place on a needle to hold the sts. Graft the CO stitches to the last row worked, in pattern, using Color C. For a möbius cowl, end on Row 2 of the stitch pattern and flip the CO end once before grafting. Graft using Color C. References for grafting in pattern are provided at the end of the pattern.

This pattern is free to members of The Knitting Guild Association. For membership information, go to www.tkga.org.
