Keep your favorite child looking cute and feeling warm in this easy to knit pattern. (skill level: intermediate) We teamed up a dynamic duel with Claudia’s Hand Painted Yarn and Classic Elite’s Balzic to knit up this colorful cap. Pick your own multicolored chunky yarn with a contrasting solid to make a personalized version of this pattern.
Hats are easy to make and fun to do. The trick is in the fit -there is quite a range of head sizes! Typically, a baby’s head circumference can be anywhere from 14 1/2 inches to 16 inches. A child size is from 17 to 18 1/2 inches, so it is important to measure. Also, (and here’s the trick) remember that each type of yarn has some “give” or stretch, so you always want to make the hat a little smaller than the calculated size. And if you are using multiple yarns, such as this pattern, keep in mind it decreases the stretch because you are weaving in ends.
Optional earflap instructions included.
