This reversible cowl or scarf is an exciting project for the competent lace knitter and an introduction to reversible lace. This stitch pattern also has a reversible cable (ribble). To add structure to the alpaca, the selvedges are i-cord incorporated as you work.

As pictured, this project is a möbius cowl. It can be grafted together as either a plain cylinder or a möbius, and the graft is the same either way. If grafting in pattern is something you would rather not do, this project can be worked as a rectangular scarf using Italian cast-on and tubular bind-off for a professional finish, but will require double the yarn (4 skeins rather than 2). Instructions are provided for both the cowl and the scarf.

Garment is worked flat and can be sized longer or shorter based on how many 12-row repeats the knitter cares to work or the yarn will support.

Video tutorials are available on the designer’s blog (check January 2016) and on the designer’s YouTube channel.

Provided in 2 file formats!
Which file should you use?

Booklet file is half-sheet formatted to print as a center-staple booklet if you:
print 2 pages to a side
print on both sides of each leaf
print on margin-less 8.5 x 11 inch paper
(If you’ve taken a class with the designer after June 2012, this is the same format as her class handouts.)
The center will be:
A piece of paper that has pages 4 & 5 on top, and pages 6 & 3 on bottom.
A middle piece of paper that has pages 2 & 7 on top, and pages 8 & 1 on bottom.
Cover (possibly heavier paper) on bottom (outside) of stack.

E-book file is half-sheet formatted but with all the pages in normal order and the blank inside covers deleted.
If you have a smaller tablet or you read off your smart phone, you shouldn’t have to zoom as much. You can also print this size if you print on 5.5 x 8 inch paper — i.e. half-sheet.
