From Comforts of Home: Baskets are so easy to make--simply knit five squares! Worked in seed stitch for strength and texture, and string for practicality and color, these baskets are both useful and decorative. You can sew the pieces together with the seams on the outside for a square box or turn inside out for a rounded dish or basket shape. Experiement with different sizes, tiny and tall, or even try a lid to top it off! Try indigo yarn and add strach to the final wash for extra rigidity. Use leather thonging or raffia to create quite a different effect for another area of the house. These baskets will be functional in the bathroom, modern in the living area, and fun in the playroom. There is no end to the designs you could attempt, for example you could add single rows of color to strip eand edge the baskets or decorate with simple embroidery. This is a great first knitting project for children to make for their treasures and trinkets.
