You might have gathered from my other listings that we are a family who love VWs! They have been the inspiration for many of my patterns and this one, based on the VW Beetle, is the latest addition to the collection. Hope you like it!
The finished knitted model comes out at approximately 11″/28cm long, 7″/18cm wide and 5.5″/14cm high, very cuddly!
The knitting is straight forward, just stocking stitch, but you’ll need to know how to increase and decrease. I used the intarsia technique for my colour changes and if you’re not sure about this technique, there are lots of really helpful tutorials by various people on YouTube.
I’m based in the UK so my patterns are all written in UK terms.
You’ll need chunky weight yarn, 100g/160m of the main colour plus oddments for windows, wheels and bumpers and some oddments of double knitting yarn for the lights and indicators. As well as the yarn, you’ll need 6.5mm and 3mm knitting needles, some toy stuffing and a couple of drinking straws (these go inside the bumpers to help keep their shape).
The pattern itself includes full instructions and photos of each piece, plus charts for the main pieces. There are also step-by-step instructions and photos to help you put everything together.
