This pattern is from “The Knitted Lace Collar Receipt Book,” “Arranged by Mrs. G.J. Baynes, “ “Fourth Edition,” “1846.” The collar is knit in three sections, the “Fancy Row(s)”, the “Lace” section, each a sequence of eight rows, and then finishing rows along the top to draw it in and add a border.

Mrs. Baynes suggests “Needles, No. 16” (modern equivalent roughly 1.75mm/US 00 needles), and “Clarke’s Paisley Cable Laid Thread, No. 38 or Boar’s Head Cotton, No. 44.“ There is also an illustration, somewhat truncated, for each of the four collars in the book. All that is missing is gauge/tension but that is common for patterns of this era.
