Knitted Modesty Panel for Corset by Weldons

Knitted Modesty Panel for Corset

by Weldons

This pattern comes from Weldon’s Practical Knitter, Number 130, Thirty-Second Series (1896). It is also published in Weldon’s Practical Needlework, Volume 11, Interweave Press, 2004.

The original pattern calls for “soft white wool, single Berlin or 4-ply fingering” (19th century weight) and “a pair of steel knitting needles, No. 12” (modern equivalent 2.50mm/ US 2.) A single panel is knit and that is attached to the corset,
providing warmth under the area of back lacing should there be a gap.

As with most 19th century patterns, there is no gauge/tension stated in the pattern. There are also no stated finished dimensions. The pattern is written entirely in text. There is, however, an illustration.
