Charts and instructions are written for BOTH circular and flat knitting on two needles. This pattern includes the following figures:

  • Mary
  • Joseph
  • Baby Jesus
  • Manger & Straw Mat
  • Shepherd
  • Sheep

Construction
Dolls are knit in one piece from the bottom-up. The doll’s body can be knit in the round, or knit flat and seamed before stuffing. Robes are knit from stitches picked up around the doll’s neck. Head coverings and vests are knit flat on two needles and attached to the finished doll. Simple sewing techniques are used to define the arms and legs after knitting.

Gauge
Exact gauge is not important; choose a needle 2 or 3 sizes smaller than recommended on the ball band to create a dense fabric that will keep the stuffing hidden.

Yarn
Each doll requires approximately 60m of yarn in total:

Skin Colour: 12m
Robe: 25m
Hair: 5m
Head Covering: 10m
Vest & Headband: 8m

Models are knit from Deramore’s Studio DK. I have attached an Appendix listing shade suggestions from the yarn brands I typically use. I encourage you to knit from your stash or project leftovers.
