Waistlines on pants generally hit higher on the body back in the 1970s when Walker wrote Knitting from the Top, and in order use her pants template to create a modern-day yoga pants style, I began her template slightly lower. After creating a wide waistband, I immediately worked crotch shaping instead of knitting an additional hip panel or darts as one might for streetwear. What helped most was knowing Walker’s template well enough to experiment, and understanding that such exploration is at the heart of top-down knitting and Walker’s entire enterprise.
