This cowl is designed for the beginning knitter. The idea was to let them practice both knitting and purling, resulting in a useful one skein project that should grow a little quicker than the endless slog of a straight scarf! Pattern was designed in the round to avoid much finishing, but could also be knit flat once the knitter understands the difference between garter and stockinette in the flat vs in the round.

garter knit flat = knit back and forth, both sides garter knit in the round = alternate rounds of knitting and purling

stockinette knit flat = alternate rows of knit and purl, back and forth stockinette knit in the round = knit every round
