Knit in the round with fingering weight yarn, the Knoppen Hat is named after the Dutch word meaning “buds.”

Sizes: S (M, L): 17.25 (19.5, 21.5) inches/44 (49, 53) cm circumference (unstretched); 8.75 (9.25, 9.75) inches/22 (23.5, 25) cm length. Will stretch to fit heads approximately 18–21 (20–23, 22–25) inches/46–54 (51–59, 56–64) cm circumference

Yardage: 185 (200, 225) yds/170 (183, 206) m fingering weight wool. Sample shown is the Large size and was knit with Dream in Color Smooshy Sock Weight 100% super wash merino wool; 450yd/411m per 4 oz/114g skein, in the Juliette’s Blush color way

Needles: US #2/2.75mm 16-inch circular needle; US #4/3.5mm 16-inch circular needle and double-pointed needles

Gauge: 26 sts/36 rnds = 4”/10 cm in stockinette stitch on larger needle after blocking

Pattern difficulty: Advanced beginner

Skills required: Casting on, knit, purl, decreases, yarnovers, working in the round on a circular needle and on dpns.
