Kosekofte is highly inspired by traditional Norwegian lusekofter. It is meant to be very over-sized, but the pattern gives instructions for how to make the sleeves and body shorter should you not want a “coatigan”.

This cardigan is worked bottom-up, in the round, beginning with the inside of the folded hem and ending with grafting together the shoulders.

Moreover, the cardigan has 5 steeks. Yes, five! First you work the front steek – the one that makes this into a cardigan, and not a pullover. Then there will be two for the sleeves, which you cut open to create armholes. Lastly, there are two very short steeks to create the round neckline – one for the front of the neck opening and one for the back. This means that you never have to purl in colourwork.

Whether you need to sew machine seams on each side of your steeks depends on your yarn. If you skip to the very last page of the pattern you will see a flow-chart that will help you decide whether to sew machine seams or use a crochet stabiliser before cutting through your steeks.

Towards the end, the pattern tells you to pick up stitches for the neck- and buttonbands before cutting through your steeks. This is just to minimise the steek from unravelling. But I will admit that it’s easier to pick up stitches after the steek has been cut, so that is also an option.

I hope you will enjoy this pattern, and if you need any help or have any suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me on Ravelry! The group ‘Skeindeer Knits’ is the best place for swift support. Happy knitting!
