Midnattssol is a Faroese-style bottom-up shawl, made in light Norwegian woollen spun yarn on thick needles! The shawl is surprisingly quick to knit for its size, and only requires four stitches: knit, knit two or three stitches together, and yarn over.

Midnattssol is Norwegian for ‘midnight sun’, inspired by the beautiful Trondheim sunset light during my photoshoot. “But Trondheim is 200 miles too far south for any midnattssol!” I hear you say. True. “10.30pm sun” just does not have the same ring to it.

I hope you will enjoy this pattern, and if you need any help, please do not hesitate to contact me in my Ravelry group ‘Skeindeer Knits’. It’s the best place for swift support.

Dimensions
Depth: 47 cm / 18.50”
Wingspan: 240 cm / 94.5”

Disclaimer: I blocked this shawl rather excessively, because I knitted it with frogged “noodle yarn”. This is certainly not necessary to get a generous size, but it shows that the shawl can be blocked to a wide range of dimensions.

Notions
4 stitch markers

Construction
The shawl is worked bottom-up in garter stitch, starting with the stitch count for the full shawl width, and then decreasing until only have a few stitches remain.

After the first few rows of garter stitch a simple lace stitch pattern is worked, which only consists of k2tog and yo.

Following this, the shawl is worked in plain garter stitch, and then decreases more rapidly for a rounded shape.
