Kumo is light as a feather and will give a stylish splash of colour to any outfit. Take it with you wherever you go!
It is an asymmetric shawl that is knitted sideways on the bias from one tip to the opposite long edge. The body is knitted in stockinette stitch that is worked with two needle sizes.

Very quick and super easy it will not pose difficulties even for beginners. It is the ideal shawl to showcase a special yarn and is worked best in a lightweight yarn with a bit of a halo.

Yarn: Ito Kinu, 100% silk, 425 m/464 yards per 50 g, 1 cone, shown in colour 361 Chilli Pepper AND Ito Sensai, 60% mohair, 40% silk, 240 m/ 262 yards per 20 g, 2 balls, shown in colour 693 Chilli Pepper; both yarns held together throughout

Yardage for sample: approx. 425 m/465 yards of Ito Kinu and 380 m/415 yards of Ito Sensai held together

You may substitute with any yarn that knits up to gauge. I strongly recommend using some yarn that has enough body (mohair, angora, suri or brushed alpaca) to achieve the look intended and to “fill” the large stitches created by using a large needle size.
Please keep in mind that differences in gauge affect yardage, so make sure to have enough yarn to finish your project, especially if you would like to knit it larger.

Needles: interchangeable circular needle with 3.0 mm/US 3 AND 6.0 mm/US 10, cable 80 cm/32” or longer
Alternatively two circular needles in the sizes stated above.

Notions: stitchmarkers, tapestry needle for weaving in ends, , pins for blocking

Gauge: 14 stitches/20 rows per 10x10 cm / 4x4 inches in pattern stitch, after washing and blocking with relaxed fabric
When counting rows make sure to also count the markedly “smaller” WS rows!

Dimensions: (wingspan and depth)
170x57 cm/67x22.5 inches

A big Thank you to my testers, who have knitted such beautiful versions of this shawl!
