These legwarmers typically fit children from ages 4-8 years. They can be worn pushed up over the knees or “scrunched up” below the knees on younger/smaller children or worn below the knees on older/larger children.

Materials Needed, etc.:

  • Yarn: Schachenmayr SMC Alpaka, 50 gm, Sport / 5 ply (12 wpi) or any other Sport weight yarn in lavender, white, grey, and pink. (I actually used two different types of yarn on these, as I had some leftover Dalegarn “Heilo” that I wanted to use up on a small project. The lavender and white yarns were alpaka and the pink and grey yarns were the Dale of Norway yarns.)

  • Gauge: 24 sts/24 rows = 4” in
    Stockinette stitch/Colorwork pattern

  • Needles: 1 set (4 or 5 small
    double-pointed needles) of Size 3
    (US)/3.25 mm) DPNs or 1 or 2
circulars. (Or size needed to obtain gauge.)

  • Tools: 1 large-eye blunt needle or tapestry needle, stitch markers.

  • Stitches Required: K, P, K1F&B (or your preferred 1 stitch increase), K2Tog, Elizabeth Zimmerman’s sewn cast-off or other stretchy cast-off.
