Lake Agassiz is a cabled beanie, knit in the round from the bottom up. It uses less than one skein of madelinetosh vintage, or 150-180yds of worsted weight yarn. The cables are primarily mirrored slip-stitch cables, with one large traditional cable accenting the front of the hat. The alternating cables and purl stitches create a stretchy fabric for a snug yet comfortable fit.

As this is my first pattern, I really wanted to honor my Minnesota roots. Glacial Lake Agassiz was one of the largest glacial lakes, covering much of modern day Canada, North Dakota, and Minnesota. Its drainage has shaped the topography of my home state, creating the fertile Red River Valley, contributing to the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers, and forming numerous lakes.

All of my patterns will be named after geological and ecological phenomena. I am continually awed by the power of natural forces to shape our lives, even in a ‘modernized’ world. My reverence and fascination for the natural world is a major influence on my designs.

Thank you so much to my wonderful testers.
