As a teen, my family would travel to a lake in Wisconsin for our family vacation. Each morning I would awaken to the sound of the water lapping on the shore. Water skiing, fishing, swimming, boating, or just floating in a tube filled the days. The water looked so different, each moment or time of the day. Sometimes it sparkles in the sun. Other times, darkness swelled in its depths as it reflected a stormy or night sky.
We have carried on this tradition with our grandchildren in Canada. We so enjoy the days spent on the shore of Lac Morency. Nath and Flo are usually paddling something or swimming. So many memories and laughter have been captured next to those sparkling lakes.
While knitting Lakeside, you can envision a calm clear lake or the gentle rippling water against the shore. The border stitch reflects the sun glistening on the waves on a beautiful day.

Lakeside is a simple Hap (square) shawl. The center field is knit corner to corner. The first half of the square (increases) is knit in solid stockinette. The decrease section gives you a break from the stockinette with the alternating eyelets and purl stitches. Once the center field is completed, stitches are picked up along each edge and the border is then knit in the round.
The half stockinette, half lace center field gives you multiple options for styling. You can fold it in half, accenting the stockinette, lace or a combination of both. The square is large enough to cover your lap or throw over a small child.
