Included as part of Point/Counterpoint Volume 3. Two designers + two yarns = inspiration through collaboration. Each designer independently created an accessory, then sent only a photo of the finished object to the other. In response, the designers used the same yarn to create a new accessory inspired by the first, thus making a set. The only limit is their creativity!

Lambley

The crunch of leaves underfoot and a slowly rolling mist over the moors - these are the signals of summers end and winters approach in the Cumbrian fells where my sister lives. The crisp mornings and chilly evenings always have me reaching for something warm and snug for my hands.

Lambley are the perfect autumn mitts - just the right level of warmth, with beautiful cable details and an extra-long cuff to stop that chilly breeze from blowing up your sleeves. The cable sweeps around your thumb hugging in the warmth and a touch of garter stitch
adds some extra squish to the top of the hand.

These mitts come in three sizes, with an easily adjustable length and the option to work from charts or comprehensive written instructions.

Materials

Dragonfly Fibers Valkyrie (worsted; 100% superwash Merino; 183m / 200yd per 100g skein)
Shade: Hidalgo; 1 x 100g skein

3.75mm / US 5 needles suitable for working a small circumference in the rnd
4mm / US 6 needles suitable for working a small circumference in the round

3 stitch markers
Tapestry needle
Waste yarn (a smooth cotton of a similar weight is recommended) or stitch holder for thumb stitches

Gauge

Always use the needle size that enables you to match the specified gauge.

22 sts and 33 rnds over 10cm / 4in of stocking stitch worked in the rnd and blocked, using 4mm / US 6 needles

Note that cables knit slightly tighter than stocking stitch. The finished mitt circumference takes this into account.

Pattern Notes

These mitts are worked from cuff to fingertips. Charts are mirrored across the left and right gussets.

Written Instructions and a fully Charted Pattern have been provided for ease of reference depending on your preferred knitting style Please make sure you are working from the correct charts as you progress through both mitts. The cable pattern is intuitive and easy to read once you have set it up.

The small and large thumb gussets are on the same chart - make sure you work the correct number of rounds for your chosen size.
