This season-spanning hat is soft and light as a feather in either Malabrigo Silky Merino or Manos del Uruguay Silk Blend (the yarns are nearly identical).

The stitch pattern is meant to mimic a vine trailing up a trellis. The idea was that it could be knit in a soft springy color for the new growth of spring or a warm autumnal color to remind one of harvest time.

If you like a tighter brim, use a Knit 2, Purl 2 rib instead of the garter. However, if you achieve the correct gauge, it should be snug and comfortable as written.

The gauge sstate is for blocked swatch in stockinette. You may want to consider going down a needle size if you do not check the blocked gauge because the silk blend often grows after blocking. If you don’t block your swatch before measuring, your hat may be too large.
