How to crochet an easy table runner pattern worked in the moss stitch aka the linen stitch, which is comprised of simple single crochets and chains.

Want to make a matching piece?

My Landon Coasters would make a great matching piece. Use them as coasters on the dining room table, or as a small doily to house a candle or small vase.

For matching kitchen pieces, my Landon Washcloths are perfect. They can also be used as doilies on an entryway table, or as napkins on the dining room table.

Another great matching piece for the kitchen is my Landon Hand Towel, or layer it on the center of the table runner.

Materials:

  • 770 (1045) Yards of Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn - I used WeCrochet Dishie in Swan
  • H8/5mm Hook for Body
  • G6/4.25mm Hook for Border
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Optional, Jewelry Pliers

Material Notes:
Yarn Alternatives: Lily Sugar n Cream, Red Heart Smoothie, Crafters Secret Cotton

Cotton is a great durable, sturdy, absorbent fiber, but really, you can use any yarn to create this runner. Only thing I will stress is the purpose of your runner. As decoration, any yarn will work just fine. If you will be using this on a table that you will be eating and drinking on too, I recommend cotton or wool with no synthetic yarn (acrylic, polyamide, nylon…) within it. Why? Synthetic’s could melt if something hot were placed on top of, and don’t hold up as well to moisture.

I usually recommend jewelry pliers to use to help weave in ends, as cotton yarn can be quite tough on the fingers when weaving in with just fingers and a tapestry needle. Dishie Yarn is really smooth, and easy to weave the yarn in and out of.
