Finally I get to self-publish my Laporte Ave. Tote which was originally published in IK Fall ‘09.

There was a group that formed about this bag they may be helpful to some of you. If you already have the magazine you are set, however if you don’t have the pattern please purchase here in my Ravelry Shop.

Finished Size 36” circumference at widest point and 24” circumference at upper edge; 13½” high.

Yarn used in pictured sample
Naturally Naturelle Aran 10 Ply , 3 skeins.
Naturally Harmony 10 Ply (CC), 10 skeins.

Yarn substitution:
Brown Sheep Burly Spun used as single strand for the body. For the cabled parts and belt loops
Brown Sheep Shepard’s Shades (held doubled) for the cables
OR
Brown Sheep Lambs Pride would work for the body (held double strand) and for the cabled parts (held single strand) 6 skeins for the body of the bag and 4 for the other parts.

Needles:
Top of bag cable and shoulder strap—size 9 (5.5 mm).
Cabled belt—size 8 (5 mm). Body of bag—size 15 (10 mm): 24” circular (cir).
Belt loop I-cords—size 13 (9 mm): 2 double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions Markers (m, one in a different color for beg of rnd); tapestry needle; 3” wooden circular belt buckle with center stem; one ¾” round magnetic snap; 4” grosgrain ribbon (for snap backing). Many people substituted a 3 or 4 inch circular brooch for the belt buckle as the buckle doesn’t need to be functional only decorative.

Comparable feltable yarn may be substituted.

Gauge 10½ sts and 15 rows = 4” in St st on largest needle, before felting.
