When Heather Hertziger—proprietor and dyer at T&H Fiberworks—sent me this vivid, pink-and-green skein of Heather’s Favorite Sock, I thought immediately of spring: flowers and little green growing things. After a false start, however, (I’ll get back to you someday, eyelet flowers!), my obsession with slipped stitches took over and grew into the bold geometry of this small shawl. When a boat is built with lapstrake (or “clinker”) planking, the hull planks overlap (rather than abutting directly), forming fascinating lines and curves. The moment I saw a picture, I knew I had the perfect name for my own clinker-built shawl.
