Lateen is an asymmetrical triangle interpreted in two sizes and versions: a garter stitch neckerchief with a bold stripe, and a garter stitch shawl with a textured border and an eyelet edge.

Both are worked in fingering weight yarn on a size 5 (3.7mm) needle and are great travel projects.

Skill level: Easy (Advanced Beginner).

Techniques used: knit, purl (yes, there are a couple of purl rows in the textured edging of the shawl), ssk, yo, k2tog.

The finished measurements after blocking are: wingspan 37” for the neckerchief; 45” for the shawl; back length 14” for the neckerchief; 22.5” for the shawl.

The samples used Knit Picks Palette, madelinetosh merino light, and Neighborhood Fiber Co. Rustic Fingering.
