This pattern combines a fun design with the vibrant colors and beautiful hand of Ancient Arts Socknato yarn!

I have added some detail to this design using the new “Little Nettle Soft” yarn from Ancient Arts, which adds the perfect amount of soft shiny glow to highlight the pattern.

One full skein of MC (Old Growth Forest), 20m of CC1 (Tinsel), and 200m CC2 (Soda Pop) should be enough yarn to complete a pair of socks.

These socks are worked from the top down starting with a ribbed cuff. The leg and foot portion are charted and are worked using a stranded colorwork technique. The pattern includes instructions for a short-row heel and standard shaped toe which is finished using the Kitchener grafting stitch.

Please keep in mind that there are differences in the finished fabric characteristics for Fair Isle (stranded) socks:

  • The finished fabric is thicker and requires more yarn than basic single-stranded socks.
  • The finished fabric has less stretch ability, therefore gauge is extremely important for this project.
  • You may require larger needles and more cast on stitches compared to single-stranded socks, in order obtain the proper fit. A Gauge Guide has been included in this pattern.
