This unusually shaped shawl has been designed to wrap around and stay on the shoulders. Starting from a long garter-tab cast-on, the three triangular sections begin with a small leaf motif that grows as the shawl progresses. The sections dividing them feature a twin-leaf pattern that travels down the shawl to the scalloped edging. The lace patterns are charted only. On each row, two charts are worked alternately to make the triangle sections, divided by rectangular strips.

When worked to pattern tension, one pattern repeat of Small Leaf Chart A measures 1½” (4cm) high and 1½” (4cm) wide; one pattern repeat of Main Chart B measures 2¼” (5.5cm) wide and 1½” (4cm) high. The finished shawl measures 22½” (57cm) deep at the centre with a 69½” (176.5cm) wingspan along the top edge when worked to pattern tension. Achieving exact tension is not vital but it may affect the size of your finished shawl and the yarn yardage required if yours differs greatly.

You will need:
1350 yds (1234m) light fingering weight yarn
3.25mm (US 3) needles, long enough to accommodate full length of work (recommended: 60” (150cm) circular needle used for working flat
6 stitch markers
Darning needle (for weaving in ends)

You need to be able to: work from charts (imperative - this pattern is charted only), work more than one chart in the same row (in a logical progression), work common increases and decreases
