This is a falling leaf lace pattern that I converted to circular knit. The hat is sized for a 21” head, but there is some give to the pattern. The repeat is 10 st, so adding or removing one or two repeats could easily change the size. The cowl is 16” in circumference and 9” wide, making it almost like a loose fitting turtle neck.

I knitted a swatch in the leaf pattern stitch to get the gauge. I chose KnitPicks Swish Canopy Tonal 100% superwash Merino Wool for the hat and cowl as pictured, but other worsted weight yarns should work. I liked the tonal shades of green with the leaf design.

I used one skein, 220 yards, for both. However, I had only about 3 yards of yarn left after finishing. Given that everyone knits a little different, you may want to buy two skeins for peace of mind. You can always make a second set as a gift.

I like the smaller cowl because, as much as I love all the beautiful cowl patterns I’ve seen, I just don’t like having yards of yarn hanging down in front of me or stacked up around my neck. The smaller cowl tucks easily into a coat without a lot of excess fabric to deal with.
