Not every Shetland shawl is made from fine yarn and can pass through a wedding ring. Shetland’s weather can be rough, and the practical Shetlanders know that thick wool offers protection from wind and rain. The traditional hap shawl is called for when one’s needs turn from lace to warmth.

Whereas a traditional hap would be made from natural greys, browns, and whites, for the full-sized hap the sample has a splash of color. Note the non-typical cable on the applied edging of the full-sized hap that alters it from the usual garter-stitch two-sided hap to a one-sided shawl.

MC - 1120 yds - Vintage
CC1 - 115 yds - Spring Valley VFD
CC2 - 300 yds - Burnt Earth
