Estonian-style mittens with a peasant thumb, worked in the round. Stranded colourwork has increases, decreases, and 2-stitch cables to give a Renaissance look and velvet-like texture. Pattern includes instructions for working 2-stitch cables without a cable needle. Colourwork is charted only. Pattern is written for working in the round with 2 circular needles.

Feb. 26/13: Revised pattern includes a larger size and better method for 2-stitch cables.

Yarn requirements (including swatching): Small: Malabrigo Sock, 1/2 skein each colour; Large: Malabrigo Arroyo, 1 skein MC, 3/4 skein CC

Needles: Small (Large): 2 x US2/2.75mm(US3/3.25mm) circular needles, or size needed to get gauge

Gauge: Small (Large): 36(34) sts = 4” over body pattern stitch, blocked

Many (and overdue) thanks to citikas, who patiently taught me Estonian mitten construction over many Ravelry messages.
