This cowl takes only one skein of yarn to make.
Large needles make this easy, fun and beautifully textured.
It uses a modified star stitch pattern; it is knit in the round—a quick, easy project to try a new stitch.

I’ve modified the star stitch pattern to use knit-three-together rather than the traditional purl-three-together step.
I prefer this knit stitch modification—with knitting three together I am less likely to drop one of the three stitches than when I purl three together, and it is easier to keep track of the stitches since the right side faces as you knit. There are photos of the stitch steps included.

I’ve tried this with worsted weight yarn as well, and it works fine to use the size 10 needles for the pattern. The star pattern shows more distinctly with large needles. I tried a silk worsted weight yarn that draped beautifully.
