From Never Knit Your Man a Sweater:

An Overnighter? Ahem, things are getting serious. Here is a seriously great-looking hat that gives the appearance of being very complicated to knit but is actually quite simple. Knit at 10.5 stitches to the inch, however, it will be a bit time-consuming. Maybe you should wait until the weekend is over before casting on… or not casting on?

Using the Slip Stitch or Mosaic Colorwork Technique (see page 52), this hat is worked back and forth and is seamed up the back. The pattern is worked with an edge stitch at the beginning and end of each row, which will disappear into the seam. The hat features braided knitting and a contrasting pattern in the bottom band.
