From Stitch 'N Bitch Crochet:  The Happy Hooker:

Influenced by toys from my childhood, I developed a love of sock monkeys over the years and began creating them for my little niece and nephews.  When my hands turned to crocheting, it was only natural that I’d want to make something that resembled a sock monkey.  Once I had it figured out, I started putting this li’l sock monkey face on everything from hats, ponchos, and scarves to bags, sweaters, jeans and T-shirts--and now onto this baby hat and afghan set.  It’s so easy to do--if you know a few basic crochet stitches and can make granny squares, you can crochet this!  Made in gender neutral colors of red, natural and sock monkey tan, the hat can be finished off with a straight edging for a masculine look or with a scalloped edging for a softer, more feminine feel.  And an added bonus for all the busy mommies--the yarns are 100% acrylic, so just wash ‘n go.  Everybody could use a sock monkey in their life--especially your li’l one!

Note on gauge:  First round of hat = 1.5 inches in diameter; 8 sts - 4 inches.  First rnd of afghan square = 2 inches in diameter; square = 6.25 x 6.25 inches
