This pattern has been re-released as part of the new book She Made Them Her Own: The Best of Trudy Van Stralen.

At one of her weekly design meetings, Trudy presented me with a rectangular strip of cloth, cut to specific measurements. She said that this was going to be a shrug/vest. I was skeptical until she started pinning it together to show me how it was going to work. Truly ingenious! This light and airy shrug will deceive you with its warmth. It is knit in one straight piece from cuff to cuff. Buttonholes are added on opposite sides, so that you can button up the sleeves and wear it as a shrug, or button down the front and back to wear as a vest. The width can easily be adjusted by adding a multiple of 6 sts to your cast-on for every inch (approximate) you want. You then
work the repeat in Pattern 1, Rows 3 & 8 more times.
