This is an asymmetrical shawl with stems and leaves growing from the top edge and opening out into flowers to form the bottom edging. There is lace work on both right and wrong side rows – no resting purl rows! There are also optional beads on the stems of the leaves and at the points of the flowers.

The blocked shawl measures 128 cm/50” from tip-to-tip and 55 cm/22” top to bottom at the deepest point.

Skills required: Lace stitches on both right and wrong side rows, provisional cast-on (tutorial link provided), beading with a crochet hook (tutorial link provided), yarnovers between knit and purl stitches on both right and wrong side rows. For intermediate to experienced knitters.

Overview: The shawl starts with a provisional cast-on and a garter stitch tab. Stitches are then picked up around the edges of the tab and the shawl is worked outwards from this top edge. Four repeats of the main pattern are worked across the shawl, with increases occurring at one edge of each repeat, on every row. Beads are placed along the centre line of each leaf. This section of the shawl can be made larger by adding extra repeats if desired. You can also make the shawl wider by adding in an extra repeat of the pattern across the width of the shawl (you may need more yarn if you increase the size). Eventually the leaves are finished and each stem between leaves is ended with a modification of an Estonian flower stitch. Beads are placed at the points of each flower.
