Tending the rock garden full of dark, almost black soil, my mother and I planted many flowers, each one with its own vibrant, breathtaking hue. The warm, bright rays of the sun enhanced their colors as they sway in the gentle breeze. This floral shawl design awakens these childhood memories.

The silky softness of the Pearlescent yarn as it glides through my fingers, reminds me of the softness ofthe flower petals I touched when my mother was not looking. The open lily floral pattern uses a simple, yet elegant, patterned combination of chain, single, and treble crochet stitches. The trio of colorful, gradient hues are separated and grounded by parallel rows of treble crochet that is reminiscent of the stems of each flower.

We hope you enjoy crocheting this garden of memories!

The floral pattern is created by groups 10 stitches wide. You can easily adjust the pattern to your liking by adding or subtracting multiples of 10, as displayed in the two samples. Depending upon your choice of starting row, you may need to add a few additional chains to the cast-on once you’ve reached your desired size. For the larger pattern, just add 7 extra chains. For the alternative set-up to the smaller version, simply add 4 extra chains.

Each section has 2 rows that repeat several times. You can easily customize the overall span of your shawl (or the width of any individual section) by working fewer/more of those repeated rows.
