This design is part of the “April Showers Bring May Flowers” series, 2021. I made this little holder the same time I made Lily’s Floral Mug Rug because I thought it would be a great duo as a mug rug for your cup and a pocket to hold/gift a tea bag, but afterwards, I got to thinking it would make a great gift card holder too, which is just as fitting! You can gift it with a bag of coffee, some flavored coffee creamers and a new mug. The gift card for on the go, and the rest for at home enjoyment!

You can also use it to gift many things like a couple Ghirardelli chocolate squares, a stick or two of biscotti, or even non-foodie gifts like a pair of earrings on a card or small floral picks.

Materials:

  • 30 Yards of Worsted Weight Yarn Total - I used Knit Picks Dishie in Bumblebee for the flower centers, and Begonia for the petals
  • H8/5mm Crochet Hook
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Optional, Jewelry Pliers

Material Notes:
Yarn Alternatives to Dishie: Red Heart’s Smoothie, Lily Sugar n Cream Cotton

Each flower requires almost 12 yards of yarn.

Gauge and finished size is not essential for this project so any worsted weight yarn from your stash will work. Cotton yarn will appear thinner and have more definition than acrylic so worsted weight acrylic yarn might produce a slightly larger flower.

I usually recommend jewelry pliers to use to help weave in ends, as cotton yarn can be quite tough on the fingers when weaving in with just fingers and a tapestry needle. Dishie Yarn is really smooth, and easy to weave the yarn in and out of.

Time Spent:
Just over 45 minutes.

Measurements:
4.25” tall by 3.81” wide
