About This Design
Put your hand up if you remember doing line dancing at a school social? I do, and I was so glad that this type of dancing was popular when I was a teenager, because I couldn’t dance to save myself. All I had to do was make sure I wasn’t in the front row, and then I could copy the moves of the people in front of me. It was so much easier than coming up with my own moves.
Whilst dancing isn’t really a part of my life anymore, I still like to keep active. If music is around, then my toes will start tapping and I’ll be stepping out with my own wonky moves – provided no one is watching me!
Which brings me to my Line Dancer sock pattern. Unlike most sock patterns, these socks feature texture on the sole, providing extra cushioning for your feet. Sand Stitch on the toes, sole and up the sides of the socks provides a lovely vertical design element. When paired with the blurred horizontal patterning created by combining a multi-dye yarn with reverse stocking/stockinette stitch, there is a very pleasing harmony across the whole sock (well, I think so!).
These socks are knitted toe-up, with a wedge toe and a Fleegle Heel. The Sand Stitch patterning flows seamlessly from the sole of the sock into the heel and then up both sides of the leg. As a designer, there is always the extra “happy factor” when you can integrate stitch patterns this way. I hope you, as the maker of your socks, also get some of this happiness. Enjoy!
