Li patterns are the patterns created by the natural processes of the natural world. Inspired by zebra stripes and wave patterns on beaches, this organic design features ribbing “hidden” in the pattern for mesmerising effect.

Construction and pattern notes
This hat is knit top down in the round. It is possible to custom size this hat fairly easily; instructions are provided on how to add or delete pattern repeats.

Finished sizes:
Age 4-Adult S: 53cm/20 ¾ inches in circumference and 21.5cm/8 ½ inches long
Adult M: 56cm/22 inches in circumference and 23cm/9 inches long
Adult L: 60cm/23 ½ inches in circumference and 23.5cm/9 ¼ inches long

Gauge:
20 stitches and 28 rounds over 10cm/4 in over main pattern.

Needles:
5mm (US 8) circular needle or correct needle size to achieve gauge for main rise of hat. 4 mm (US 6) for ribbing or a needle 0.5mm (or one or two US sizes) smaller (optional). You can use double pointed needles if you prefer. Pattern assumes magic loop, but you may substitute your preferred method for small circumference knitting when increasing the crown.
