The Lise Top is a lightweight design, worked in a combination of Stockinette stitch and 2x2 broken rib stitch. It is worked from the top down and you will work both flat and in the round. The shoulder construction is a hybrid between a contiguous and a drop shoulder, which gives a relaxed feel with a neat fit across the shoulders. The Top is finished with minimal details around the collar and hem.

You will begin by shaping the shoulders with increases on the right and wrong sides of your work, working flat at first and establishing the 2x2 broken rib stitch along the shoulders. You will then shape the neckline and join to work in the round, continuing to shape the shoulders. When the shoulders are the correct width for your size, you will leave the shoulder and the back stitches to rest and you will work the length of the front panel. You will then repeat this for the back panel, before joining the body in the round. The body is finished with a round of purl stitches and a knitted cast-off. You will then apply the collar, which is worked in Stockinette stitch and is left to roll over slightly.

Finally, you will work each sleeve. You will pick up and knit stitches to form the sleeves and you will shape the sleeve caps with some German short rows. You will continue working in the 2x2 broken rib stitch established in the shoulders and can finish the sleeves with either a sewn cast-off in 2x2 rib, or a knitted cast-off. You can work the sleeves to be shorter or to be full length.

Materials and Fit

Notions: You will need 3 mm / US 2.5 (40- and 80-cm / 16- and 32-in cord) and 4 mm / US 6 (40-, 60-, and 80-cm / 16-, 24- and 32-in cord circular needles. You will also need at least 4 stitch markers, 1 clip-on stitch marker, a darning needle, and either scrap yarn, spare circular needles, or stitch holders for the resting stitches.

Tension: 22 stitches x 30 rows/rounds in Stockinette stitch on 4 mm / US 6 = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in; 24 stitches x 26 rows/rounds in 2x2 broken rib = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in.

Sizing and ease: The Lise Top has a recommended positive ease of 5-10 cm / 2–4 in for Sizes A-H and 0-10 cm / 0-4 in for Sizes I-L around the chest (or the widest part of your torso). However, if you wanted less ease, you would be welcome to choose a smaller size relative to your chest measurement and vice versa.
