The inspiration for these socks came from a lovely sweater that I purchased. I loved the pattern stitch and wanted to incorporate it into socks--but to make it more wearable, and prettier--I designed a rib that incorporated the stitch pattern. My husband says it looks like a flock of Little Birds.

It looks especially beautiful in a semisolid yarn, but it handles variegated colorways very well. The slipped, pulled stitches help break up pooling.

9/25/2019: I have published a completely re-edited and revised version of this pattern. The design is the same, but the pattern now has charts and a new format.

Enjoy knitting your Little Birds! I hope you post your pictures and projects!
