I have lots of leftover little balls or bits of handspun yarn after I complete a project or at the end of a spool of roving I have spun. So what to do with them? They are just begging to be used after all! That is when I had the idea of using this yarn to knit a baby or child’s hat using my leftover handspun.!
You can use any yarn in your stash, but I love how the handspun “bits” knit up into a beautiful, fun little hat. I use two different yarns in a hat, starting out with one and finishing the top of the hat with another. You can add in more than two yarns as well. If you are an experienced knitter, you can experiment with thicker yarns and cast on 50 stitches instead of the 60 that I call for in the pattern. I use a sport weight or worsted weight, depending on how large I want the hat to be.

I use approximately 2 oz of handspun yarn in 2 different colors. The gauge is very approximate depending on the weight of the yarn; I will use anything from Sport to Worsted weight yarn; the hat will fit an infant between 1and 3 months.
