This was a stashbuster hat for me over lockdown, I wasn’t intending to release the pattern but a few people asked me for it. ‘Iced Gem’ has sadly been discontinued from Erika Knight’s British Blue Wool range, but is still available in some online stores, along with many other gorgeous colours. Of course you can use any DK yarn from your stash that meets the given tension.

I chose to duplicate stitch the trees in Rowan Kid Classic, again because I was using up yarn I already had in the house and the colour and halo went well with the main shade. Kid Classic is actually an Aran weight yarn and I wouldn’t normally recommend working Swiss darning with a heavier weight yarn than the main yarn, but after swatching I felt it worked well for the motif.

As always I recommend you work a swatch for gauge but if you are substituting yarns that differ in weight slightly then this is a must!
