These adorable little lightning bugs make great gifts and/or charming personal desk companions. Pattern includes instructions using glow-in-the-dark Jelly Yarn (in Vanilla Peppermint) or plain worsted weight yarn. Two different wing options are also included to give you lots of personalization options.

Level of pattern difficulty: MEDIUM

To complete this pattern, you should be familiar with the following crochet skills and techniques:

  • Crocheting in the round
  • Increasing and decreasing stitches
  • Working with novelty yarns (if opting to work with Jelly Yarn)
  • Changing yarn colors (if opting for yellow wing accents)

Tools and supplies:

  • G (4.25 mm) hook or any size to achieve Jelly Yarn gauge
  • E (3.5 mm) hook or any size to achieve worsted yarn gauge
  • 15 yards black or charcoal worsted weight yarn
  • 1 yard red worsted weight yarn (if opting for head details)
  • 1 yard pale yellow worsted weight yarn (if opting for head details)
  • 6 yards glow-in-the-dark Jelly Yarn (Vanilla Peppermint, fine weight) OR yellow worsted weight yarn
  • 3 mm black pipe cleaner
  • Pair of black 7.5 or 8 mm round flat-backed doll eyes
  • 26-gauge black floral wire
  • Pinch of polyester stuffing
  • Hot glue gun
  • Wire cutters
  • Scissors
  • Blunt yarn needle
