Aren’t we all in love with seahorses? They are adorable and very cute. Did you know that they pair for life? They meet first thing in the morning to reinforce their pair bonding with an elaborate courtship display. The female meets the male in his territory and as they approach each other, they change color. The male circles around the female and the pair often spiral around an object such a rock or a plant. This display can last for up to an hour. Thereafter the female goes back to her own territory.

The Little Seahorse shawl reflects this colorful ritual. Now you can celebrate the spiral dance and pair two lovely yarns for life. Little Seahorse can be knitted with almost any yarn: solids, semi solids, tip dyed yarns, and color gradients. All you need is two distinguishable yarns of the same weight. The pattern works especially well with very long color gradients. There are many different indie dyers who offer long color gradients at the moment, but if you need some help I’ve added a list of possibilities below.

I highly recommend Wollbonbon 4 ply which you can order at wollbonbon.de. It is a wonderful yarn to knit with and the color gradients are just amazingly beautiful.

Little Seahorse is originally designed for fingering yarn. However, it is suitable for any yarn weight from lace to dk as the size is defined by the number of modules you knit. When I knitted this shawl I used two different colorways from Wollbonbon of 600y/550m. Another version was created with two different Zauberballs by Schoppel.

Little Seahorse is fully reversible. Although it is a modular knit there is no seaming involved as you will join all the modules as you go. All instructions are written AND charted, enriched with ample photo tutorials on the techniques of shaping and joining the modules. This makes Little Seahorse a doable project for most knitters.

If you would like to knit this at some point in the future, don’t hesitate to get your pattern now as this weekend only (1st - 2nd of September - EST) it is on sale for 25% off the original price of $5.99. No coupon necessary. So grab it while you can!!!

Happy knitting!
