Every baby needs a squishy blanket, but babies grow so quickly and start to have very loud opinions about what they want to have on them or around them! This blanket is perfect for longevity sake and will become an heirloom cherished by the whole family. The piece is worked like a semi-circular shawl, as tiny eyelet stitches gradually bloom into a teardrop lace stitch that rests on a background of reverse stockinette. The semi-circular construction allows the blanket to be used in a variety of ways- from wrapping baby gently for a nap, tucking in for a bit of warmth in the car seat, or to wrap mom and baby up for a late- night nursing session when the night chill might not be so welcome. This construction also allows the blanket to work as a nursing cover when mom might want to be slightly more discreet but providing a breathable material to keep mom or baby from becoming uncomfortable. Additionally, since the blanket can be worn as a shawl, it can be used long after baby has outgrown naps and its comfort. What a sweet reminder of a cherished, yet all too brief, time.
