Inspired by the seashore, this cosy double knit sweater features a fair isle style wave motif, shown here in a self-striping yarn for added interest. Functional buttons along the left shoulder are a practical help in dressing smaller children, but also a decorative touch. Each part of the sweater is worked flat from the bottom up, with stitches picked up from the cast off edges to create the neck and button bands. Please note that the colourwork is charted only.

Materials
• 306 (712, 712, 712) yds/100 (200, 200, 200)g DK yarn for main colour and up to 153yds (50g) of contrast colour
• 3.25mm needles
• 4mm needles
• Scrap yarn or 2 stitch holders
• 3 buttons, approx. 12mm diameter
• Needle for seaming

Yarn
Any yarn that works to 22 sts and 28 rows to 4”/10cm should be suitable, but please check the yardage carefully and, ideally, choose two yarns from the same brand. I used Hayfield Bonus DK ‘Royal’ for the main colour and Hayfield Bonus Breeze DK ‘Mist’ for the contrast colour.
