This is a fundraising pattern for my late brother, Mino (1971-2004).

I designed the “Pinkole,” the first design of this “Colorful Nicole” cowl series last winter. Now, she is 12, a very tricky age. If you have a daughter, you know what I mean. As of last winter, she was wearing colorful clothes, but now mostly in black. I feel “fake” to name this cute cowl series as “Colorful Nicole.” Sigh. She is not colorful in clothes, but definitely is emotionally these days.

“Lolitole” is knitted with a beautiful hand dyed yarn by Orange Flower Yarn, its colorway called Lolite, a purple gem stone. Purple was once Nicole’s second favorite color. Thin cables in this cowl mimic girl’s braid. The rib stitch stands out next to the reverse stockinette stitch. It is a quick knit with fantastic result. I am confident that you would agree.

All the proceeds of this pattern will be donated to the Minoru Hokari Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Australian National University. My late brother, Minoru Hokari (“Mino” 1971-2004) died of cancer at the age of 32. The scholarship fund supports young scholars who study Indigenous Australians through fieldwork. We are trying to fully fund it to achieve its perpetuity. Please help.
